You probably haven’t put much thought into your hot water heater temperature setting, but you should take look. The recommendation is that it should be set to no more than 120°.
When your setting exceeds 120°, it can create excessive water heating costs; and with hot water being one of the main contributors to energy consumption in the home, you’re likely to see it on your bill.
A higher temperature setting can also be unsafe. Temperatures over 120 can cause scalding which is especially dangerous for children and the elderly. At 120°F, it will take approximately 10 minutes to scald a person; however, if your water heater is set at 150°F, it will take only two seconds.
Take a few minutes to check your settings. This will keep your family safe and could save you a little money in the process.
